A group, Kogi Central Media Crew, has described the unsolicited views and opinions of Prof. Itse Sagay on the Presidential ambition of Gov. Yahaya Bello as an expression of hatred on the Governor and display of ignorance on the political affairs of Nigeria.

The group, in a statement filed by Abdulmumin Abubakar, said Sagay being a Professor of Law should have acquainted himself with basic criteria that qualifies a citizen of Nigeria to vote and be voted for as rightly enshrined in the country’s constitution, therefore, his vituperation and unpatriotic statement on the Governor is uncalled for and irresponsible to say the least.

The group submitted that Prof. Sagay failed to realise the determination of Nigerian youths and women to control their destiny come 2023, “hence, Sagay and those in his class were not comfortable with such decision even though it’s an idea whose time has come.”

“Prof. Sagay and his co-travellers should wake up to the realities of modern Nigeria driven by passionate youths and women who are fully ready to take leadership of the country through Gov. Yahaya Bello.

“On his description of Gov. Bello as a political lightweight boxer, one wonders how the old man draws such conclusion on issues he has no history of participation. What makes a politician a heavyweight boxer? Is it on the pages of newspapers or political achievements as a major player.

“In case Prof. Sagay is not aware of the political credentials of the youngest Governor in Nigeria, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was elected as the Executive Governor of Kogi State in 2015 and reelected 2019. Under his leadership, APC won the three Senatorial seats, seven House of Representative seats, the 25 House of Assembly seats and delivered over 300,000 votes to APC in the 2019 Presidential election where his supposed cruiser weighters performed below average.

“Gov. Yahaya Bello led the party’s delegation to Ekiti and successfully delivered it to APC. He was also in Ondo State twice to ensure Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu got elected and re-elected for second term in office. Not only these, he has severally and continually supported the party with ideas, commitments and capacity in all ramifications.

Without mincing words, Yahaya Bello is the Sarkin Yaki of APC in Nigeria,” the group said.

The media group called on Prof. Itse Sagay to tender unreserved apology to Gov. Yahaya Bello “even though we understand Nigerians no longer take him serious because he has since out lived his relevance in socio-political affairs of the country.”
