30th December, 2013 is one of the most anticipated days on the calendar, for most youths and teenagers this year. On that day the 3rd season of the Youth With A Difference Annual conference would take place. The coordinator of the organisation, Owobo Olorunyomi, while speaking explained why the annual conference of Youth With A Difference is organised in “seasons” and not described in the conventional parlance as “editions”. He said, It’s like the difference between a movie and a television series.
Whereas most Others kind of events are like your conventional movies. The Youth With A Difference (Y-WAD ) conference is like a television series, where each episode, though thrilling and exciting on it’s own gradually gains momentum until the season finale where it all come together and hopefully if it’s like the Game Of Thrones, makes you immediately begin to look forward to the next season.
He further announced Rise Above Status Quo as the theme of this year conference, with Romans 8 vs 19 ” for the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed” NIV as the anchor Scripture. He said that the world awaits God’s children most especially the young minds to start manifesting their potentials, skills and talents given to them by God and also to take their place as world changers, leaders, innovators and role models. Many young people are tossed by exciting trends in the society and are not living a fulfilled lives, but have decided to settle for the status quo. They have resolve to settle for whatever is available based on the environment they have found themselves in and do not know how to Rise Above the Status Quo.
The event is a Leadership Summit and we would be addressing the issue of mediocrity, fear, defeat, procrastination, failure and negativism amongst young minds from the scriptural perspective,so as to make them understand that they are born leaders and that they are not to just sit back and accept the status quo ; but did something about it, make a change and make a difference.
He said the conference is loaded and padded for young minds and every aspect of the event would be simply refreshing from the welcoming ambience of the location, the red carpet session, panel discussion, soul stirring entertainment, inspirational stories, raffle draw (with fantastic prizes to be won), interactive session, fund raising for charity and scrumptious refreshments to the highly empowering word ministration.
He also said that Youth With A Difference (Y-WAD ) would also be unveiling two of her new projects which are ; The Smile Project and the Y-WAD writers club. The Smile project is a charity project which seeks to put smiles on peoples’ face ,most especially the less privilege and vulnerable in our society while the Y-WAD Writers Club is an initiative to encourage and promote young christian writers and expose them to remarkable opportunity to learn and explore the tremendous possibilities of spiritual writing -the possibilities of offering healing to the world, of being a change agent, a voice of encouragement and so much more.
The program manager Kola Olatunde said “The 2013 Youth With A Difference (Y-WAD ) Conference is one event you will not want to miss with exciting sessions to inspire and motivate you to Rise Above Status Quo. After the event, we hope that attendees will be able to know that the good is not good enough ,there is a greatest good called the best”
While concluding Owobo Olorunyomi, he said the participants would thoroughly enjoy themselves, as they would leave inspired, charged, refreshed and motivated to make a difference.
