The participants of the just concluded 3 days Youths Summit to prevent Violent Extremism in Kogi State will not recover in a long time. The Summit which was themed, ‘Youths As Catalysts To Peace And Development’ held at the three Senatorial Districts of the State from 22nd to 24th.
The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Youths Empowerment Sports and Students Affairs (SA YESSA), Bashorun M.D. Eseyin has proved his worth again by initiating this laudable programme, the Summit is part of the continuous effort of the State Government to develop Kogi Youths and stabilize the Peace achieved so far for Development. Eseyin is indeed a square peg in a square hole.
ActionAid Nigeria and Partnership In Behavioural Change Initiative Development (PIBCID) collaborated with the office of the SA YESSA to make this Summit happen because of their interest in a Peaceful Kogi State.
The Summit featured resource persons who gave series of lectures on the subject matter. While, the Executive Director, Emergency Risk Alert Initiative, Mr. Gbenro Olajuyigbe, one of the Resource Persons talked about ‘Preventing Violent Extremism – Role of Kogi Youths and Government’; Dr. Ajogbon Daniel, a Psychologist representing Dr. Taiwo Jones, Head of Clinical Services, Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja lectured the youths on ‘The Effects of Drug on Violent Extremism’.
The Summit has charged the Youths on the need to be peaceful and responsible to compliment the Governments effort for the Socioeconomic turn around of the State, the Speakers also charged the Government to enlarge their scope in engaging the youths, they said this will do more in bridging the inequality gap and make way for fairness and equality which is the main reason for Violent Extremism.
We in Voice of Mopamuro Youths (VOMY) applauds Kogi State Government and every group and persons who is material towards this, especially Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Sani Ogu Salisu.
Thanks to all Kogi Youths who were able to attend, it is important we avail ourselves for such programmes so that we will be well equipped for immense contributions for personal development and nation building.
