The recent appointment of Senior Special Assistants on security matters for each of the 21 local government areas in Kogi state by Governor Yahaya Bello as been described as an “unintelligent attempt to extend the illegal tenure of unelected Administrators.”

A social crusader and activist, Comrade Austin Okai made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

He derided the new nomenclature, calling on Kogi state government not to convert local government councils in the state to mere security outposts.

Okai threatened to challenge the new appointments in the court.

“I call on a well meaning Kogite to reject the new arrangement in its totality. The appointment on Senior Special Assistants to run our local government councils is designed to further impoverish the people of state.

“Governor Yahaya Bello is merely recycling the council officials using different nomenclatures. He has been running the local governments illegally in the last four years with officials that were not elected by the people.

“Governor Yahaya Bello has shown that he lacks capacity to conduct modest council elections in line with the constitutional provisions. We are going to court to challenge this anomaly.

“The current arrangement is an unpopular decision because it is a conduit pipe to further siphon local council funds through corrupt tendencies of the state officials and local government appointees, a menace that has been  prevalent in the last four years.

“Governor Bello thinks he is smart. He keeps repeating the same acts of mis-governance and he is always going scot-free because of his romance with the presidency. It is high time we stopped this run of political rascality. This is fraudulent and we must kick against it using all available legal means,” he said.
