Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello is hardly ever in the news for the right reasons. If he’s not owing salaries, he’s being alleged to be the mastermind of an assassination attempt on Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, or worse still justifying his non-payment of salaries.

Bello, who is currently Nigeria’s youngest governor keeps playing to the gallery, especially regarding the plight of workers in the state. Since Bello assumed office, workers in the state are yet to receive their salaries in full, without being owed for a month or the other.

In the week under review, the situation worsened, as Edward Soje, a Director in the state’s civil service committed suicide after his wife delivered triplets.

According to reports, Soje, who is being owed eleven months salary hung himself on a tree after receiving the news.

Reacting to Soje’s death, the state government through its Head of Service, Deborah Ogunmola, admitted that the deceased was last paid in December 2016.

From best to worst, we bring you our weekly effectiveness rankings of Nigerian Governors.
