Yasin, Shiru, Others Attend 8th Day Fida’u Prayer for Late Tanko Ali

National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin was on Saturday, March 24, among thousands of dignitaries that thronged Lokoja, the Kogi State capital for the seventh day Fida’u prayers for late Alhaji Abubakar Tanko Ali, who passed on at 68.
The Administrator, Lokoja local government council, Hon. Lawal Shiru; member representing Lokoja 1 constituency, Ahmed Umar Imam and member representing Lokoja 11 constituency, Hon. Idris Ndako, were among the dignitaries.
Others were, all state chairmen of the NURTW from the 36 states of federation, including the federal capital; former INEC Resident Commissioner, Alhaji Ismaila Kareem; members of Lokoja traditional council and a host of others.
The event, which started at about 10.00 a.m., was marked by the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, selected prayers and public lecture by Islamic scholars.
One of the prayer recitations was offered by the acting Chief Imam of Lokoja Central mosque, Shirkh Aminu Shaban.
Shirkh Shaban, in his abridged lecture, called on the living to always remember that anything with a beginning, including life and political office, would have an end.
He advised that as mourners remembered the late Ali, they should strive to mend their own lives so that they would inherit eternal life.
Accordingly, he said that people should learn to honour time, including their time on earth, as a sensible act, not to miss their way in the end.
The Shirkh further urged political office holders to see their positions as an opportunity to serve the people, adding that good followership also would correct leaders and make them accountable for the country.
In an interview, the National President of the NURTW, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, said he came to celebrate a life well spent and worthy of emulation.
He recalled his relationship with the deceased as he declared that the NURTW will offer employment to one out of the deceased children.
He also said that the union will rename the Kogi state secretariat of the NURTW after the late Ali saying that it will henceforth be called ‘Tanko Ali House’.
He further said all the deceased entitlements would be paid to the family without delay.
This, according to the National President, is to remind the people of who he was and what he fought for.
This newspaper had reported that  Alhaji Abubakar Tanko Ali who was the National Vice President of the NURTW died in Lokoja his hometown, in the early hours of Sunday, 18 March.
