A youth group from Kogi State popularly known as “Kogi 2020 Hopefuls” yesterday vowed to unseat the incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello through the ballot box come 2020 governorship election.
In a statement signed by the leader of the group, Momojimoh Salihu, and secretary, Sunday Oguche, shortly after soliciting for Jibril Isah, a.k.a Echocho, to contest for the office of governor in Kogi State in the forthcoming governorship election, said Gov Bello has performed dismally.
The youth group which came to Lokoja, yesterday, said it has come out in search of better representation in Kogi State.
“We are a concerned youth group yearning for a better Kogi state. Our association is not a political group, we are not sponsored by anyone. Our concern is a better future that our younger ones and children should inherit. That’s why we are here calling on Jibril Isah Echocho to contest the governorship position.
“We are disappointed in the performance of Yahaya Bello as governor of our dear state. He has done nothing, so he does not deserve re-election. Our people are dying of hunger due to non-payment of salaries.
“Kogi people are suffering untold hardship, our parents have withdrawn their children from schools, because they cannot pay school fees. About 70 percent of citizens in Kogi state cannot assess medication due to lack of funds, simply because the governor failed in his responsibilities to pay civil servants their due entitlements.
“We beckon on Jibril Isah Echocho to come and salvage our state in 2020 as governor. We know he has the capacity to do it; we have seen his performance in the banking sector,” the group said.
