Agitated youths in Ife-Olukotun, Yagba East Local Government reportedly foiled the plan of some political leaders to get the paramount ruler of the town anoint Dr. Kehinde Mohammed as the sole chairmanship aspirant from Ife-Olukotun.
As Kogi State local government elections draw near, political gladiators across the length and breath of the state are perfecting strategies to win at the polls.
In Yagba East local government, the intrigues are unending. In the spirit of ‘power rotation’ in the local government, it is widely believed that it is the turn of Ife-Olukotun to produce Chairman of the local government. As expected, Ife-Olukotun parade eminent aspirants in Mr. Dayo Onibiyo, Chief Jimoh Adeyemi and Dr Kehinde Muhammed.
Reliable sources told KogiReports.com that the State Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Hassan Salawu and the Special Adviser to Governor on Inter Religious Affairs, Alhaji Isa Adeboye are the key promoters of Dr. Muhammed.
Hassan and Adeboye were said to have prevailed on the monarch to openly announce that Dr Muhammed as the sole candidate from Ife-Olukotun so as to brighten his chances of clinching the party’s sole ticket ahead of the Liaison Officer 1, Comrade Sola Adebola.
As the youths got wind of the sinister plot, tension rose in the peaceful town. The youth mobilized themselves and headed straight for the Oba’s palace.
The unexpected large presence of agitated youth allegedly changed the agenda for the palace meeting. The issue of endorsing a sole candidate was not raised by the proponents for fear of breakdown of law and order.
