The Kogi State Government has disclosed that its Youth Advancement and Development Programme is specifically designed to promote youths enterprise, self employment and economic empowerment.
Capt. Idris Wada, the State Governor, stated this at the closing ceremony of the fourth batch of Youth Advancement and Development Programme for public works training programme at the weekend.
The Governor who was Represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi said his administration’s expression in youth development is aimed at making them responsible for the future.
The Governor noted that the programme is a clear manifestation of his vision for a succeeding generation, described youths as the engine room of any nation.
The Governor who appreciated the peaceful disposition of the youths towards the programme urged them not to allow the knowledge they have acquired ware off.
Capt. Wada called on the youths to come together as a group, if they have challenge succeeding in their individual businesses, assured of government support and reward to businesses that excel.
The present administration, he noted abhors thuggery and violence, said he is resolute in programs that will reform and change the attitude of youths for human capital development.
The program which he noted will be pursued vigorously to cater for more youths, he noted will also help mould their character to be discipline and be development conscious.
Earlier in her speech, Dr Mrs. Temetope Shinkaiye said the 1,000 youths graduating from the fourth batch of the YAD4KOGI Programme brings the total number of those trained to 2,200 in the public works category.
The objectives of the programme Mrs. Shinkaiye explained are aimed at generating employment opportunities for the State teeming unemployed youths.
The Special Adviser added that the programme which pays monthly stipends to the youths will equally check rural – urban migration, stem social vices and create wealth to enhance Socio – economic development of the State.
