Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Kogi state chapter, has donated nose masks, gloves, boots and other protective equipment to Lokoja abattoir workers to enhance their protection agains tuberculosis.

This was part of the activities to mark this year’s celebration of World Tuberculosis Day.

Chairman of NVMA, Dr Tolu Omotugba, emphasized the need to ensure strict hygiene during slaughter.

He also presented protective equipment to the secretary of the butchers who expressed profound gratitude.

While addressing the press afterwards, the chairman encouraged their members working in the abattoir not to compromise in condemning animals observed with tuberculosis lesions.

The choice of abattoir for the celebration, he explained, was to sensitize the butchers and abattoir workers about the deadly bacteria which has now turned to a global epidemic.

The Chairman pleaded with the government to implement the 2021 revised CONMESS of her members in civil service.

NVMA marked this year’s celebration at the Lokoja abattoir and was joined by a special team from the Kogi state center for tuberculosis program led by Dr Komolafe Rotimi as early as 6am to join the vets working in the abattoir for the daily meat inspection exercise.

Other supporting partners like WHO and INGRA were also in attendance to mark the celebration.

Every March 24 is world tuberculosis day.
