Ustaz Muhammed Rabiu Sulaiman, Hannatu Idris from Kogi/Koton-Karfe Local Government Areas, has over the weekend emerged as the overall winner in the first category at the 25th edition of Kogi state Qur’anic recitation and its exegesis (Tafsir).
The competition which was organised by the Kogi state Council of Ulamau took place at Isah Kutepa Memorial Central Musque in Lokoja.
Ustaz Muhammad Rabiu Sulaiman was for the second time after winning the last year edition of the competition, while Hanatu Idris emerged victorious in the female category.
Out of the 57 participants, 29 were declared winners from different categories and received various prizes, including motor cycles, LED Television sets, refrigerators, transistor radios, standing fans and cash, donated by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Arc. Umar Buba Jibrin, representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency.
State Chairman of Kogi state Council of Ulamau, Sheikh Salman Adam, in his welcome address, urged revelant stakeholders in the upliftment of Islam in the state to always contribute their quotas towards such competitions and other islamic activities.
While commending the donors for their benevolence, Sheik Adam said there is always reward from the Almighty for any one who contributes towards the course of Islam.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the competition and Special Adviser to Kogi state Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Hon. Abdulmumin Ahmad Okara, commended the organisers for the successful conclusion of the competition.
Hon. Okara, who also doubled as the representative of the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, encouraged Muslims to learn and put the Quran teachings into practice in their daily lives.
According to him, the state government will always give it moral and financial support to activities like this, saying that the state government in collaboration with other stakeholders, will ensure the hosting of the national competition of Qur’anic recitation In the nearest future.
The winners will represent the State at the National level at the competition which is expected to hold in Kwara state later this month.
Dignitaries at the occasion include the Deputy Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Hon. Buba Jibril, Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Umar Ahmed Imam, the Administrators of Lokoja and Kogi Local Government Areas, Hon. Shiru Lawal, Barrister Tanko Muhammed Osuku, traditional rulers and a host of Islamic scholars.
