Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial district, Yakubu Oseni said in Abuja that President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to diversifying the Nigeria economy and creating jobs through development of solid minerals sector.
In an interview with journalists at a one day Roundtable Discussion on the “Need for Continuous Implementation of Policy Reforms for the diversification of the Nigerian Economy through Solid Minerals Sector”, Oseni said the process of solid minerals development begins with robust laws that would drive the sector.
He pointed out that Kogi remains the centre of solid minerals, noting that if developed, the nation stands to benefit as well as the state.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is talking about diversification of the economy and creation of jobs. In diversifying the economy, the President is looking at the solid minerals.
“Kogi State is like a centre of solid minerals where there is limestone, iron ore, gold, coal and others which if tapped, would boost the economy of Nigeria.”
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction at the Federal government’s moves to resuscitate Ajaokuta Steel plant, adding that if the Iron industry starts working, there would be massive, job opportunities for Nigerians.
