Why I Dumped PDP, Joined APC – Smart Adeyemi

A former Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Smart Adeyemi, explained to TheNEWS this morning why he formally dumped the peoples Democratic Party and picked the registration card of the All Progressives Congress.

Adeyemi who recently joined APC at a brief ceremony held in his Iyara Ward in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State told this magazine: “You know politics is essentially a local issue. For over 16 years, the people at the grassroots did not enjoy development under PDP. That was why my supporters and I worked for the Abubakar Audu/James Faleke governorship race. Thank God APC won. In fact, my supporters dumped PDP and joined APC before me. We are not looking at issue of party now but development for the people.”

On the day he crossed, Adeyemi who got card number 14542741, said: “I need to be in the APC so that we can jointly with Hon. Abiodun Faleke and my brothers work for the betterment of our people. When I talk to the people in government about the deprivation of our area as a member of the APC, they will not see me as an enemy.”

James Faleke, the Deputy Governorship candidate to the late Alhaji Abubakar Audu, who attended the ceremony, said Senator Adeyemi is a valuable asset to the APC in the state, adding that he was determined to work with him to better the lots of Kogi West Senatorial District.

In the words of Faleke that day: “I am very happy he is joining us. He is my senior politically and I have a lot of respect for him. He doesn’t need to be in politics to survive but he has he love of his people at heart. The job of making the society better is not the task of one man. Anyone who wants to work for his people will not say people should not join him and that is why I am very pleased with his coming.”

The Zonal Chairman of the APC in Kogi West, Chief Lawrence Asagun, who represented the State Chairman, Alhaji Haddi Ametuo, said the coming to APC of Adeyemi meant that the party would no longer have sleepless nights in winning the state.

Asagun said: “He was one of those that gave us tough times in winning elections here when he was in the PDP. With his coming, we will no longer have sleepless nights in winning elections in this zone.”
