Women in Leadership Position (WILP), Kogi State Polytechnic chapter, has described the Rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman as a gender sensitive leader.

The group, comprising of female deans, heads of departments and units, made this known during the presentation of ‘Gender Sensitive Leadership Award’ on the Rector in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The Polytechnic Registrar, Mrs. Omolola Audu, said in view of appointments made under the leadership of Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman, it is obvious women have never had it so good in the institution.

“Thank you for identifying with women and for believing in us. You believe in possibilities and I assure of our unalloyed support.

“Since I joined Kogi State Polytechnic in 2000, women have never had it so good. We will continue to pray for you and work with you,” she said.

In her address, the Dean, School of General Studies, Mrs. Bala Gbogbo commended the Rector for his exemplary leadership qualities.

Mrs Bala Gbogbo described Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman as a firm believer of gender equality like Governor Yahaya Bello.

The dean noted that under the current leadership, there has been massive infrastructural and academic content development, adding that the Rector has demonstrated and institutionalised good conduct and peacebuilding in the polytechnic.

The Director Academic Planning Unit, Mrs Ruth Haruna, said women in the Polytechnic will continue to appreciate the Rector for his numerous feats within a short time.

Mrs. Haruna said the Rector has changed the face of the Polytechnic and moved the institution to an enviable height.

She thanked Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman for empowering women to take their rightful place in the Polytechnic.

She besought God to bestow on the Rector the “blessing of the womb” – to conceive and see results.

In his acceptance speech, the Rector expressed gratitude to the women for the honour.

Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman noted the Polytechnic, under his administration, appointed the first female Director Academic Planning Unit and Head of Entrepreneurship Development Centre. He added that Mrs Uredo Omale, the current Head of Public Relations and Protocol Unit, is the first woman appointed into the position.

He explained that his mother’s sacrificial love and determination to see him succeed in life is the main reason he has a soft spot for women.

He promised to do everything within his power to make the institution one of the best in the country.

“I have absolute and total respect for women. Women have justified the confidence reposed in them in the discharge of their duties in the Polytechnic,” he said.

He commended the group for identifying his modest contribution to the growth and development of the institution and assured them of his preparedness to justify the confidence repose in him.

After the presentation of award by WILP, the Rector decorated a security staff of the institution. Mr. Aribido Sunday Stephen as senior security officer.

He assured staff of the institution that hard work, loyalty and commitment to duty would always be rewarded.

The Rector described Mr. Aribedo as a dutiful and loyal officer who have shown gallantry and dedication to duty as a security officer, adding that his elevation was a council decision.

The Polytechnic’s governing council had in June 2022 approved the accelerated promotion for Aribido as a reward for his gallantry and dedication to duty which helped in averting security catastrophe.

Chaired by its chairman, Professor Yakubu Isa, the Council unanimously agreed that Aribido, an indigene of Kabba-Bunu local government of the state, be promoted to appreciate excellence and diligence in service, and to motivate other staff.
