The Kogi State Government has disclosed that it is resolute in making all the tertiary institutions in the State, meet the best acceptable standard.
Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, State Deputy Governor, stated this at the 50th anniversary celebration and reception dinner in honor of Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Political Appointees in Kogi State held at the Government House, Lokoja at the weekend.
The Deputy Governor described Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as an institution that has helped shaped the life style of its grand aunts, urged the ALUMNI, to put the knowledge acquired from the institution into the growth and development of the State.
In his speech, Abdulkareem Ismaila, Chairman of the occasion, called on the ALUMNI to strive for excellence as epitomized by the institution they attended describing the school as a rallying point for the Nation in view of its size and several individuals it has produced.
In a lecture, titled, “ABU at 50, a Kogi State reflection” delivered by Alhaji Yabagi Bologi, disclosed that the institution which has produced notable giants in various fields of endeavors, has remained a centre of academic excellence and a rallying institution in the North.
Bologi, pointed out that the history of Kogi State cannot be complete without ABU as those that have helped shaped the policy and politics of the State are all majorly products of the institution.
While reflecting on the successful achievements of the institution in its 50years of existence, Bologi, employed the ALUMNI to strive, for qualitative advise, programs and policy geared towards the development of the State by all its ALUMNI who are found in various sectors of the state’s life.
In his remarks, Dr. Moses Atakpa, State Head of Service and Chairman of ABU, Kogi State Chapter, urged the ALUMNI of the institutions to work towards impacting the society by establishing legacies that will uplift them as a way of reciprocating the knowledge acquired from the institution.
Founded on 14th October, 1962 as the University of Northern Nigeria, ABU became a Federal University in 1975, has since graduated many notable Nigerians, many of whom are Kogi State Origin.
