The leadership of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), have denied adopting Prince Abubakar Audu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as their candidate.
The students made this known in a statement issued in Lokoja on Monday, which was signed by the association’s president, Mr Michael Dare Zacheaus and secretary, Mr Abdulazeez Jegede, describing the purported adoption of former Governor Audu “by a group of people parading themselves as members of the association as mischievous and fraudulent.”
According to the association, those who announced the adoption acted on their own, as there was no time the executive council of the NAKOSS met to adopt Audu or any of the candidates contesting the election.
The NAKOSS disclosed that a case of impersonation had already been lodged with the police and State Security Service (SSS) against those that were identified to be behind what it described as unscrupulous act, even as it urged well-meaning individuals to disregard the spurious adoption.
The association also urged the electorate in the state not allow themselves to be confused and asked them to feel free to vote for any candidate of their choice during the election.
It also urged all its members participate in the December 3 election and warned them not to make themselves available for use as thugs by selfish politicians.
The students commended governor for his untiring efforts at improving the lots of the students of the state origin in higher institutions through prompt payment of bursary, provision of hostel facilities and vehicles for the operations of NAKOSS.
