Kogi state Government has finalised arrangement to set up an audit committee to probe fraudulent activities in the 21 local government areas of the state.
The state Governor Captain Idris Ichalla Wada announced this at a meeting he held with all the council chairmen at the Lugard house in Lokoja yesterday.
The audit panel Wada said which may be handled by more than one firm is to investigate the financial misappropriation and reckless in all the most of council areas across the state.
” We are going to sanitize the local government system in Kogi state and put an end to a situation where council areas cannot pay full staffs salaries”.
Gov Wada also directed that the state government shall henceforth over see the payment of salaries of council staff in the state.
“Any local government chairmen found to have committed fraudulent by the audit panel would be handed to the appropriate authority and prosecuted”Wada announced.
He then admonished all council chairmen with political ambitions to resigned from his present position in order to fully pursue other ventures and stop jeopardising public interest.
