The present administration’s quest for the acquisition, development and fair distribution of appropriate man power, has been described as key to effective and efficient healthcare delivery and services to the people.
Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada made the remarks at the 9th annual Kogi State council on health meeting held at Government House, Lokoja.
The Governor said his administration has through various interventions in its healthcare programme continued to provide the people with periodic free medical services, to adequately bridge the health gaps of the people.
Capt Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said there has been on–going efforts at up-grading infrastructures at the secondary and tertiary healthcare levels in the state, added that aside infrastructure renovation, and supply of standard equipments to health institutions in the state, concrete and visible efforts aimed at the full accreditation of courses and programmes in the colleges of Nursing and Midwifery and College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, has been carried out, added that the bill establishing the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah would soon be assented to.
Capt Wada explained that government is also putting in place progressive measures to ensure the take – off of the clinical areas of the pre – clinical medical students of the College of Medical Services of Kogi State University, Anyigba, and assured of government support towards assisting faith based health facilities and training institutions within the State to enable them render services to the people and to provide the much needed health manpower.
While noting that government is not unmindful of demands by health workers of enhance remuneration, the present administration, Capt Wada maintained, will continue to consider the welfare of its workers and people in relation to the resources at its disposal.

The State Government, Capt Wada disclosed has began a phase enrollment of its political office holders into the Health Insurance Scheme, urged those who are yet to enroll in the scheme to avail themselves of the benefit of the laudable programme.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Dr Idris Omede, Kogi State Commissioner for Health, commended the intervention by the present administration to address infrastructure, equipment and human capacity development, solicited human capacity development and the need to have critical mass professionals in the various fields of medical and health work.
Dr Omede said the theme for the 9th Kogi State Council on Health meeting, “Sustaining the Transformation of the Health Sector in Kogi State- prospect and challenges” followed the identified challenges confronting the health sector, commended the political will and commitment of the Capt Idris Wada for bringing health care delivery closer to the people.
Highlights of the council meeting was the presentation of a 13 point resolution recommended to the state government for consideration and approval.
