Workers in Kogi State have been told that voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the December 3rd governorship election is the only guarantee to enjoying the N18,000 minimum wage.
This disclosure was made at the just concluded State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kogi State Chapter.
By implication of government’s decision as passed to the workers, a source who will prefer to remain anonymous disclosed that the money will take effect from December 2011 in principle while a grand design is being put in place for the incoming government of Captain Idris Wada to begin payment if he wins.
Speaking with a Lokoja-based tabloid, a top official of the NLC denied any such move by the government. He however said the paucity of funds as is noticed by many of the states in Nigeria is the hindrance to to why the state NLC cannot be confrontational.
