Vigilante Foils Suspected Igburra Militia’s Attack on Monarch’s Palace in Kogi

Local vigilante, on Tuesday, foiled an attempt to attack the palace of Aguma of Bassa, HRH William Keke in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi state.

The attackers suspected to be Igburra militias were said to have camped at
Dojibo forest near Oguma where they had planned to launch the deadly attack on Wednesday morning.

Some farmers in the area who got wind of the evil camping quickly informed the local vigilantes.

In order to avoid the attack the local vigilantes were said to have moved into the forest at about 2:00pm on Tuesday to chase away the invaders.     

The local vigilantes were said to have recovered one motorcycle which caught fire during exchange of guns, three petrol jerricans, rice and beans, grinder dry cassava, salt and some sachets of Maggi. No life was lost in the invasion.

A local vigilante in the area, Mohammed Tanko told our reporter that the suspected Igburra militias have for over a week been threatening to launch a deadly attack on the palace of Aguma of Bassa, the Local Government secretariat and the  INEC office all located at Oguma the Bassa Local Government headquarters.

When our reporter put up a call to the Divisional police officer in Oguma his number was switch off at the time of this report.

As at Tuesday there were still palpable fears that the militia may still launch fresh attack on the three locations in Oguma.

Local residents at Oguma called on Governor Yahaya Bello to take drastic action to bring the lingering communal crisis between the Bassas and Igburras to an end.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday March 7, suspected Igburra militias launched an attack on Sheria community leading to burning of houses and lost of several lives.

In reaction to the attack Governor Yahaya Bello made a state wide broadcast warning that his administration has the capacity to stem the lingering communal crisis in Bassa.
