A United States of America-based group, Kogi East Unity of Purpose in Diaspora, has called on governorship aspirants to abide by the screening report of Kogi East Elders Council (KEEC).
In a statement signed by the group’s secretary, Jibrin Onuh, the screening report shows decision of the elders was based on merit.
He urged aspirants who were screened out to accept the decision in good faith and work towards the common goal of lifting the state out of doldrums on November 16.
“Governorship aspirants who were screened out by the elders committee should abide by the agreement, hold on to their pledges and work together for the betterment of the people Kogi state.
“The screening results show us that is not about how wealthy you are, not based on highest bidder, but proven leadership skills.
“Out of the six aspirants selected, only two will go for general election and only one will emerge at the end of the day. The whole idea of elders’ intervention is targeted at uniting the people. It is also an avenue to show togetherness and oneness in-spite the presence of our immense individual interests.
“We urge the youths to learn from history and experiences to build a formidable future for the next generation. It is only in unity we can succeed together and develop our state together and stand against maladministration, poverty, backwardness and insecurity of lives and properties,” he said.
Onuh appealed to aspirants to show understanding, competency and leadership by agreeing with the screening results and stand by it so the general public can attest that their personal interests does not come before public interest.
