Tunde Ogbeha Tasks Buhari on Institution Building

Former military governor of Benue and Akwa Ibom states, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on building strong institutions if he hoped to succeed.

Ogbeha spoke at a two-day national conference of the Public Administration and Management Development Institute, PAMDI, while delivering a paper entitled: ‘Building Strong Institutions: A necessity for Good Governance, Rule of Law, Transparency and Accountability’ held in Abuja.

He said there cannot be good governance in the face of the violation of fundamental rights of the people, saying that good governance and fundamental rights are mutually reinforcing any egalitarian society.

Ogbeha, who listed corruption, lack of exemplary leadership and electoral fraud as major challenges militating against strong institutions cited the recent scandal of Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, which led to the resignation of its president and warned Buhari to aspire to lead by example to continue to attain global recognition and respect.

The former military governor, who also described the controversial NLC election as a misadventure called on the new helmsman to use the outcome of the 2015 elections as a stepping stone to make the Nigeria’s electoral system better through reforms.

While emphasizing on the importance of strong institution in national development, Ogbeha also underscored the need for Nigeria to look forward for strong leaders who can in turn build strong institution.
