Table Shakers Association of Nigeria (TSAN) has urged Kogi State government to fix certain collapsing portions of roads in Lokoja metropolis. A drive through Lokoja by TSAN crew revealed a disturbing situation with some segments of roads about to collapse. It viewed this as an indictment of the Works Ministry in the State for remarkable display of ineptitude and advised the Commissioner in charge to buckle up. TSAN equally noted that with KOGROMA, maintenance of road infrastructure in the State should be constant and continuous.

#TSAN also noted with trepidation, the appalling condition of several Housing Estates in Lokoja constructed by previous administrations in the State  that have fallen into disrepair due to negligence.

Since government is a continuum, the moribund status of these Estates because of the lacklustre disposition of the New Direction Government is inappropriate and no longer acceptable. These facilities were put in place with Kogi’s Commonwealth and it is only reasonable to renovate the structures to enable Kogites benefit. The Government can enhance its IGR by making houses in the Estates habitable and either let/lease to workers or give out on owner occupier basis.

#TSAN acknowledges that the Governor cannot be everywhere but that is why several appointees were engaged. In a situation where ineptitude is observed, the guilty official must be sanctioned. Closely related to this, is the issue of the pitiable state of tourism infrastructure in the State. It is strange that despite the huge potentials of tourism, the facilities in this sector are archaic, neglected and not in tune with modern trends.

#TSAN admonishes that Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board be empowered to turn around the fortune of this vital sector. This will not only reduce unemployment, it will boost the internally generated revenue of the state especially at this period of dwindling resources amidst a plethora of competing needs. The association beseeches Gov. Yahaya Bello to take more than a passing interest in the issues raised. This will make appointees sit up for acceptable service delivery.

For the Works Commissioner and his Culture and Tourism counterpart, it is the informed opinion of #TSAN that their best in their respective Ministries is clearly not enough. Kogi deserves and demand substantial commitment from those saddled with the responsibility to oversee government agencies.

Salami Banjo

BOT Chairman, TSAN
