Transferred Propaganda

There are so many things some of us have come to appreciate by dint of the opportunity provided us by the four walls of classroom, without which we would have been seeing things in the same way as “ordinary people” on the streets corners will do.

A few days ago at a function, I tried to talk about a certain type of propaganda known as “propaganda by deed” which I believe played out in many ways in our recently body politic vis-a-vis the perceived – real, artificial or imagined insecurity that has been so loudly trumpeted within certain circles.

For those that followed what I shared about ‘propaganda by deed’ the last time, I will invite you to read from me in the next few pieces of post on propaganda or what we refer to as ‘war strategy’ just so that nothing you hear going forward in this republic will shock or surprise you again.

I am talking about ‘transfer propaganda’ also known as ‘association propaganda’. It is a propaganda technique whereby projecting the positive or negative qualities (praise or blame) of a person, entity, object, or value (an individual, group, organization, nation, patriotism, etc.) to another is its mainstay in order to make the second more acceptable or to discredited in the eyes of the public.

Remember that propaganda is not always negative. Depending on the situation, a propagandist may choose to project good for himself, and bad or negative as it were for others as forcefully as possible.

So if you ever wondered why political parties enjoy speaking bad of their opponents more often than they do of themselves, you should forthwith understand that they are “transferring and transmitting” the negatives of their opponents purposely to achieve a certain goal…
