It is a sign of progress and even a thing of joy that one of, if not the most popular member of the Kogi state sixth assembly is someone who has made the most impactful strides in his constituency history and not just a lawmaker whose selling point is grammatical blunder, bully, eye service, propaganda or been known for embarrassing comments. With archives, he has given several impressive speeches while debating matters of state and national importance to exemplify legislative responsibility, trust prudence, steward accountability and representative distinction.
And of course, the figure with these virtues at the Kogi state house of assembly is by name Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu, he is not just the honorable member representing Ankpa 2 state constituency but a perfect example of all that is required or right in a legislator, a fine representation of reconcilable variables and above all, a standard for future assembly members from within and outside his constituency.
I do not intend to praise this gentleman but proud to say Ankpa 2 and Kogi state at large is lucky to have a man like him at a time we need a replica of PM Julius Malaima of South Africa to show us the true character of parliamentarian.
Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu is indeed a true picture of the latter’s specifications. He is much calculative, smart, visionary, accountable, dogged, fearless and politically savvy than most of his age brackets because he knows the system, has played opposition and has the capacity to swim in or beat a system as his mastery is that, unlike most people who feels like been at the top in the beginning of their seemingly short political voyage, he doesn’t flaunt his smartness in the people’s face because experience have obviously taught him that power is transient.
I witnessed a testimony of how confident the late prince Abubakar Audu was in this young man and I was wondering how on earth he had so much humility, perseverance, wherewithal, compassion, understanding and patience despite having run things with late Audu whose “Ego_Majestic_Honour” is unrivalled.
So, that he(Hon Rabiu) lives a very simple life proves beyond doubt that empty vessels makes the loudest noise for in ideal societies, men like Rabiu Alfa would probably be a counsellor because he can talk, is ever articulate, fearless, rationale but fiercely and stubbornly loyal to a course insofar as it is in public interest.
It is important to note that the very ebullient honorable, Rabiu Alfa was elected as a member to make laws for good governance but he has in addition to this primary assignment given great succour to his constituency and constituents at different times and through multiple means which proves that the people who voted for him must have seen the tendencies of good dividends in him during the electioneering.
Indeed, his kind of brand is what the nation needs at this critical time that the United Nations has proposed its Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). Without words mincing, what constitutes a public servant’s scorecard is how well he has served the people and I’m glad to at this point unveil some of the things Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu has done/is doing for the people of Enejma and Ojoku districts which constitute Ankpa 2 constituency.
In fulfilling the main essence of legislature which is effective law making, oversight and checks of the other arms of government, Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu has to his credit the facilitation of Ankpa-Emere-Enabo-Ofugo-Abejukolo road as it’s rehabilitation is consequent upon a motion moved by the grassroots man calling on the attention of the state government to the said road. He also has to his credit the establishment of the Kogi state Forest Guards as this wouldn’t have been made possible without him giving the much required “legislature/executive” cooperation which he did by virtue of him been the chairman(house standing committee) on environment and ecology as at the time the bill came to Kogi state house of assembly.
In pursuance of his legislative excellence, may I add too that apart from been the current chairman of the house standing committee on water resources and vice chairman, house committee on finance, he served as the former chairman of the house standing committee on sustainable development goals(SDGs) immediately he left sway as chairman of environment and ecology. Also, he formally co-chaired the house standing committee on Justice in the capacity of vice chairman and it was during this time that the bill for a law to provide for Kogi state criminal justice and administration was passed, a bill which was not just passed and signed into law by the governor but popularly believed as one of the major achievements of the Kogi state sixth assembly.
True leaders they say are the mirror images of their followers. Hence, it will only be but a figment of western ideology to say Hon Rabiu has performed creditably if there is(are) no physical infrastructure(s) to point at as what we practice in this part of the world is crude democracy wherein masses(constituents) use physical infrastructure as the hallmark of an elected officer’s performance. In the light of this, I cannot but conclude that Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu has truly proven to be “The Mirror Image Of An Excellent Legislator”.
The workaholic honorable who recently made a case for government’s presence at a remote community (Okpoku) shall be remembered by his constituents for the construction of five new markets at Ofugo, Ojoku Agbodo, Inyologu, Awo and Ukwo Doko. He shall also be remembered for the provision of portable water through his construction and resuscitation of boreholes across Enjema, Enagbede and Enabo communities.
Also among his physical infrastructures are that he built a new classroom block adding to full renovations at Inye, constructed an almost two kilometers(2km) fence at Government Secondary School, Okaba, constructing a soon to be completed classrooms block at Community secondary school, Enabo, pays on annual basis WAEC/NECO/JAMB fees of forty students evenly selected across the constituency as well as his distribution of about five thousand copies of notebooks.
Among other things, In the area of health, Hon Alfa Momoh Rabiu has cut a niche for himself in the hearts of many through his opened doors for medical assistants without recourse to preferences. Whereas his health interventions which covers payment of medical bills, orthopedic care, footing of operation/surgical bills etc as are too numerous to mention. There are evidences that God has used him to intervene in many health cases and the most recent is his financial assistance to an estranged lady who had an accident in December 2015 and was held back at FMC Lokoja after undergoing four fracture surgeries at the backdrop of referral from different hospitals.
At this juncture, I must say that we as a people sometimes seemingly latch our attentions in outright absurdities while the plethora of sanity is with us. To curb this decadence, we must not allow our fortunes to be exchanged with uncertainties when we can see and feel impacts. I make bold to say this because of the attitude and lingering deceit of some capitalist politicians who come with empty promises, false humility, Grecian gifts, betrayals and unfounded propaganda all in the name of politicking times like now that elections are near.
Even though I know and hope that the difference is clear to the good people of Ankpa 2 constituency, I want to reiterate that the consequences of ill decisions will linger for a period of at least four years and hence, the need for advocacy to all well meaning individuals to support Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu for an express return.
Finally, Hon Alhaji Alfa Momoh Rabiu has over the last three years revamped the primitive influence of politics that bewildered the constituency in a long succession by qualitatively and prudently representing Ankpa 2 at the Kogi state house of assembly through his involvements and full participation in the hallowed chamber. Truly, “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” and so Hon Rabiu is not just irreplaceable but remain the best man for the job.
