The Boko Haram menace in the North Eastern part of the country (Nigeria) will indeed take some decades for Nigerians and specifically the people of the North East zone to overcome the trauma.
The sect that started violence in 2009 like a joke in Maiduguri, Borno State letter turned to be an International Terrorist group when they declared allegiance to ISSIS. They maimed, killed and destroyed lives and properties of both Public and Private establishments. They took over towns, villages and even local governments. They took control of over twenty Local Governments areas, among them are: Mubi and Michika both in Adamawa State.
This article is precipitated by my recent visit to Adamawa State and PMB’s declaration of Victory over Boko Haram. My trip landed me in Mubi and Michika Local Governments. The duo hitherto fell to Boko Haram hegemony and cruelty.
On my arrival, I saw so many structures including bridges damaged and destroyed by Boko Haram, when I enquired about a GtBank in the area, only to be told that it has not been renovated since it’s bombardment by Boko Haram.
In view of the above, I became very inquisitive and curious to ask questions about people’s experiences with the insurgents.
In Michika, a young man; Usman Danjoti narrated his ordeal by saying “May Allah bless Baba for us, if not for him who appointed the right Military Service Chiefs , BH would have taken over the entire country. He went on to say, when I finished my secondary school, my father gave me Two Hundred Thousand Naira (200,000) to start a business and that before BH seized Michika town, he had goods worth of over 700,000 in his store but, after boko haram were defeated by the military, he came and met nothing. He said my father refused to come back from Yola, but has handed this new shop to me to start all over again”.
In their own experiences, Oliver and his friend both from Igbo extraction narrated their predicament when they quickly responded to my question about a damaged bridge, “Ah! it was the hand work of Boko Haram…… these people destroyed our lives, they carted away our resources, see me now I go to Yola to collect parts for credit and pay back after sales”.
The last person I wish to document his voice here was an old man whose emotional comments threw me off balance.
He started “My son, look at this Michika Council Secretariat, it used to be the best in the North East, but today see how Boko Haram destroyed it, here was their base, small children pursued us from our town, they do not have respect for our age. Am a retired civil servant as old as I am, I ran and trekked for several kilometers with my family”.
Furthermore, it is important to note that for the first time in the past 6 years, we celebrated Christmas without a bomb blast. Yesterday, while viewing Channel Television, I listened to the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima along side with COAS, Burratai when they opened some major roads that were closed due to Boko Haram menace, he said “the defeat of BH is the best Christmas gift he ever got. He described the Christmas of 2016 as his best season of celebration since his assumption of office over five years ago.
He said that 2016 signalled “Nigeria’s year of victory and Borno year of hope and liberation”.
The highways are Maiduguri-Gubio-Damasak and Maiduguri-Moguno-Baga roads. All thanks to our able PMB and our gallant Military.
From these few experiences above, it is expedient for me as a Nigerian, to say thank you God for making it possible for President Muhammadu Buhari who leaved up to the expectations of the majority of Nigerian’s citizenry.
I decided to briefly put down these few things from my experience and the need for those wailing to come to terms with the political will on the part of PMB led government in curbing Insurgency in Nigeria which by God’s grace will be replicated in other areas of governance.
Just putting it right.
I still remain Comrade Yahaya Wada.
