Tanko Wins Kogi West SDP Senatorial Primary Election

A former governorship candidate in Kogi State, Barr. Abdulrahman Tanko has emerged senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the western axis of the state, ahead of next year’s general elections.

Tanko emerged unopposed during the primaries of the west senatorial district of the party held at the state secretariat of the SDP in Lokoja.

The returning officer for the western axis of the state, and state chairman of the party, Hon. Moses Oricha Peters disclosed during the exercise that 346 delegates were expected from across the seven local governments that made up the district, to participate in the process.

He however revealed that 320 turned up for accreditation and fully participated in the process, even as Barr. Abdulrahman Tanko polled 310 votes to overwhelmingly win the exercise, while 10 votes were invalid.

Speaking shortly after the election, Barr. Tanko who was a one-time minority leader of the state House of Assembly, commended the delegates for their overwhelming support, promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.

He assured that he would work assiduously to attract development to his constituency if given the mandate in the coming general elections, saying all hands must be on deck to ensure the success of the party in next year’s elections.

According to him, the nation deserves a better deal, in view of the numerous challenges confronting the citizens, maintaining that concerted efforts must be geared towards changing the ugly narrative for the better.
