The Ijumu Elite Group has warned the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Taofiq Isa to desist from disrespecting traditional institution by bringing them into political mud.
The group was reacting to a statement credited to the Chairman, directing the Olujumu of Ijumu land, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, to warn some group from Ayere Community, claiming that their son, Hon. Olushola Kilani Olumo is not a terrorist in a section of the media.
The group, in a statement by its Coordinator, Hon. Samuel Olaniyi said the statement by the council chairman is a disrespect to the stool of the Olujumu and such will not be accepted by sons and daughters of the area.
The group, while acknowledging the fact that the fact the the Chairman is the chief security officer of the Local Government, said “he should also know that traditional rulers are custodians of culture and traditions and not to interfere in Politics.”
“For more than seven years at the helm of affairs in Ijumu Local Government, it is unfortunate that the Chairman cannot differentiate between politics and traditional institution. Hon. Taofiq Isa should be please count Ijumu Obas out of his dirty, pull him down and bitter politics.
“That we will resist any move to bring the integrity of Ijumu Traditional Council into disrepute. We’re for peace and want same for every community in Ijumu.
“Hon. Kilani and Hon. Taofiq Isa are our sons and should allow peace to reign in our Local Government as the Activities of the Chairman is overheating the polity of the Local Government before and after the kangaroo suspension of the Honourable member representing Ijumu Constituency at the State House of Assembly.
“We call on the leadership and members of Ijumu Elders Council to call the Chairman and Hon. Kilani together with the view of settling their differences in the interest of peace and tranquility of Ijumu Kingdom,” the statement read.
