Senior Advocate of Nigeria, U.O. Sule, (SAN), has extended warm congratulations to renowned human rights lawyer and pro-democracy advocate, Ayo Obe, on the occasion of her 70th birthday.
In his message, U.O, Sule, SAN praised Barr. Obe’s unwavering dedication to justice, democracy, and the rule of law over several decades. He described her as a patriot whose courage and conviction played a critical role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, especially during the challenging years of military rule.
“Ayo Obe’s relentless fight against injustice and human rights abuses has been a defining hallmark of her public service,” he stated. “Her sacrifices during the military dictatorship and her fearless commitment to democratic values have helped shape the Nigeria we strive to build today,” he said in a congratulatory message on Friday.
He also acknowledged Obe’s influential leadership in key institutions such as the Civil Liberties Organisation, the Nigeria Transition Monitoring Group, and the Police Service Commission. He highlighted her pivotal role in leading the Democratic Institute’s Abuja Elections Programme from 2006 to 2009.
“Her tireless work in promoting civil liberties, social accountability, and electoral transparency has left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s democratic institutions and civic space.
“As she marks this significant milestone, I pray for Ayo Obe’s continued strength, health, and wisdom as she embarks on another decade of dedicated service to our nation,” he added.
He emphasized that Ayo Obe’s exemplary legal activism and commitment to national service set a standard worthy of recognition and celebration.
U.O. Sule, SAN reaffirmed his belief in deepening democratic governance and protecting the fundamental rights for which Ayo Obe has long championed.
