A non-governmental organization, Kogi State Best Interest Support Group, has called on Kogi state government and the leadership of organised labour to return to negotiation table in the interest of the state.
In a press statement issued by the Director General of the group, Comrade Mayaki Dan, after its inaugural meeting on Sunday, the group bemoaned the adverse effects the 3-weeks old strike on the state’s economy.
The group resolved to pursue the development and sustenance of peaceful coexistence of the people of Kogi State within and outside the state.
The Support Group, with membership cutting across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State, aim to bring all stakeholders that matter in the governance process of the state and the nation together, support the government of the day in its good programmes and policy implementation as well as criticize, where applicable, areas where the government of the day is not doing well, with a view to correcting it and suggesting alternate better ways of providing good governance.
The group hopes to achieve its objectives through the organization of meetings at various levels and with various stakeholders, media interactions, town hall meetings and the organization of development programmes, seminars, and workshops.
The group congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a successful and peaceful ward congress across the State. This, the group said, is because every government needs a formidable opposition to keep it on its toes by way of constructive criticism.
