As a concerned citizen of our dear state, it behooves us to contribute, in our own way, to the development and advancement of education in the area we live in.

Hon. Commissioner, we are writing this letter to you because we are not unaware of your willingness to implement good policies of the New Direction of Kogi State Government under Governor Yahaya Bello.

Hon. Commissioner, it’s good news as an achievement to your headship of your ministry to always have schools flying high in colours in competitive examinations. We are drawing your attention to one of the schools in Kogi central that has been making us proud in various competitions. The school in question is Standard Nursery and Primary School, Onyukoko, Okene. School achievement is now talk of the day beyond home and abroad.

There is no iota of doubt that Standard Nursery and Primary School, Onyukoko, is the best school in North Central of Nigeria having emerged in various competitions that bring schools together from the area. Based on this effort, over 70 pupils of the school have received scholarships from both private and public organizations, some of the students are in various schools home and abroad.

One cannot imagine how the school can still perform excellently under an unfavorable learning atmosphere. Pathetically, the school compound and learning environment is in a state of shamble. Our Hon. Commissioner, sir, yours concern-ly, Education Task Force, Okene Chapter has met the school management and it was regaled with mind – boggling problems which the school can not address. According to the school management, it lacks the financial capacity to address the factors. So, the school is in dire need of your government’s help in order to create a high class enabling environment for both the teachers and the pupils.

“The whole school needs urgent and total renovation, no sport facilities, all structures are in a sorry state not befitting for even animal habitation. We love sports and we are proud of this fact. This is because we know, without a doubt, that it improves the physical as well as the mental capacity of the average human being thereby bringing out the best in us.

“But in you, under the New Direction of Governor Yahaya Bello we are hopeful that the condition will be reversed and our children will have an atmosphere conducive for learning.”

Other Special Primary schools, too, need urgent rehabilitation as well as equipment. The challenges here are many, but now that we have a governor that truly loves us, we cannot hide them.”

It is a bolt from the blue that in our society honour is not given to whom honour is due. Sir, as a group of concerned citizens who believe that good work be appreciated, we are calling on you to appreciate the head of the school, Mr. Abdulmalik Alladullahi, who has been churning out pupils from primary school in Kogi state, outshining their peers in various schools.

– Comrade Umar Adabara Abduljelil
Secretary General Ebira Youth Peace/Education Task Force,
Kogi Central.
