TRIBUTE ON A JOB WELL DONE TO THE IMMEDIATE PAST INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE
RTD. SOLOMON EHIGIATOR ARASE (IGP).
By Ojasope.
With due respect and sense of humility, i will start by saying that to whom much is giving much is expected and to everything under the earth there is an expiring date. “Not only for the dead once even for the living once as well”.
On this day April 21th 2015 that you “Solomon Arase” was been given a mantle of leadership to succeed your predecessor in person of Rtd. Suleiman Abba, in the capacity of the inspector general of police (IG) which I see as not only the NPF but also to everyone who are been reckoned with police also which by default, all the citizens of the country are friend of the police. It was like yesterday that you were appointed the eighteenth Inspector General of police (IG) in Nigeria but today, it has become a history “once upon a time”. You were given the mantle of leadership on the date mentioned above by the then president “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”, I never believed that it will have a great achievements thus far.
I thought, it will be as usual norms in which the Nigeria Police will have IG that will just come and go with no legacy and impact. But, I sit down with my two hands crossed looking at how well and good a change can be made in our NPF sector, Nigeria and also how you will key into the vision of the president of these great nation “Mohammed Buhari GCFR”. But, today to the glory of God you have come out well excellently with a great achievements which can be seen and pointed to and your duties are been discharged with no iota of laziness and improper act. I do call you “Mr. No nonsense”.
Today, I deemed it fit to come out boldly to say prior to your mantle of leadership, things in the NPF vendor were been handled with “I don’t care attitude” but during your tenure, God help you to turn some things that have been sabotaged around , made impact and lay a legacy even in NPF and Nigeria as a whole. It was well known that all the promises you made during your assumption into the office of the inspector general of police (IG) you were able to discharge them diligently and faithfully despite the challenges we are facing in our dear country e.g the economic situation and the barbaric insurgency. Over 75% of your promises were been fulfilled which by grade and standard it is excellent result. Below is little of the Edo born promises to mention but few were:-
- The curbing of the corrupt practices in the NPF vendor which goes in line with the president watch word.
- The protection of lives and properties of every citizens in the country.
- The upliftment of the NPF to a greater height and which today I can vividly stand and say you have done a very good job and also laid down a good legacy in the NPF sector and Nigeria as a whole. Less I forget, a throwback to the job well done in the elections that took place during your tenure the likes of Bayelsa, Taraba, Kogi state etc. it was in your tenure I can say that Nigeria, witness the most peaceful election. The way you handled the security of the elections most especially in Kogi state which I happen to be originated from made the election to be smooth, free and fair despite the things fall apart that happen during the governorship election in the state. What I sensed most and made me to give you this kudos was I see it in you that your top most priority as at when you are in the service was the protection of lives and properties in the country and the welfares of the Nigerian police.
The curtailing of corruption in the Nigerian police to the minimal level, promotions of most NPF officers who never dreamt to be in the next by now, the rehabilitation and proper care and reconstruction of our police academy lagos, kano etc. All these to mention but a few are the great achievement you made during your short tenure. Your tenure was short but, your achievements and standards in the NPF are of no equal in the history of NPF. I wish you had been the Inspector General prior before your appointment to achieve more than what you have achieved now.
Solomon Arase, a man of clear vision and accomplished mission, a man with unknown terabyte of humility and a man who says his word and stand by it. You will never be forgotten in the history of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). You are whom the NPF and Nigeria need to stay at the helms of affairs. Wish you can spend more years at the top helm of affairs in the NPF. You have created a positive record in which since I was born it has never been in the history of the NPF.
Thank you for the meritorious, selfless service to humanity and the redefinition of the NPF ie, bringing back the lost confidence and trust the Nigerian citizens has lost in NPF. How I wish I have the power to give you tenure to serve because, one good turn deserves another. Deep down in me am not happy for the retirement but I can do nothing to stop it because for every beginning, there is always an end. I pray your successor will have the same vision with you, continue from where you stopped and build on your already laid legacy more over to give the best to Nigeria as he has already said during his appointment as the acting Inspector General (IG).
Rtd. Solomon Arase (IG), based on your achievements that have been seen and heard since you were given the mantle of leadership as (IG) of police up till you retirement I hereby, recommend you for national award. Once again, thank you for a job well done and excellent service to humanity. Wishing you happy retirement. Long live Solomon Arase, Long live NPF, and Long live Nigeria.
