The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Yakubu Oseni has in his recent phase of women empowerment scheme, trained and empowered over 500 women across his constituency.

The two-day intensive entrepreneurship training which commenced yesterday was focused on soap making, production of air freshener and other toiletries which are in high demand on the daily basis.

Senator Oseni who believes that one of the ways to improve standard of living in every household is to empower women with vocational skills, vowed that he will never renege on his campaign promises to the women who he said were very strategic to his victory at the polls in 2019.

The lawmaker who is the chairman, Senate Committee on ICT/Cybercrime, further reiterated that if necessary survival and vocational skills are impacted on the people, the rate of social vices emanating from idleness would be reduced drastically.

He said “may I use this opportunity to tell everyone here that I am born and bred at home and responsive enough to know what our women want. In Kogi Central, we are blessed with very vibrant and hardworking women and young people who are ever ready to engage in entrepreneurial and creative vocation. This informed my decision to take particular interest in our youths and women because once they are empowered, the positive multiplier effect will result to sustainable economic development”.

Senator Oseni also revealed that aside the entrepreneurial training, there are several ongoing infrastructural development across the five local government areas of his constituency, noting that these projects are 95% completed and will be commissioned before the year runs out.

“Very soon, we will be inviting all of you to join us in commissioning classroom structures, boreholes and ultra-modern ICT and digital centres across Kogi Central. I am firmly convinced that this is more sustaining than distribution of superficial items which are ephemeral in the name of empowerment scheme,” he said.

Some of the beneficiaries of the training who were adequately given start-up capital could not help eulogising Senator Oseni, describing him as God-sent for giving them life-changing skills.

One of the women remarked “I am very excited for this life transforming opportunity given to us by our Senator. I have always believed in his ability and competence and we are very happy that he has not disappointed us in his responsibilities. For supporting him, we have been vindicated by his humility, productivity and continuous strong connection with people at the grassroot”.

It would be recalled that aside distribution of hundreds of laptops to schools and other physical projects in his constituency, Senator Oseni has been very consistent in empowering women and youths since 2019. The first training programme he organized on ICT/digital economy focused on youths, while the just-concluded one was  for women. Several other programmes according to him are in the offing.
