Senator Oseni Embarks on Nationwide Cyber Security Training for Civil Servants, Others

In a swift response to the raging scourge of internet-related crimes in the country, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni has expressed readiness to give free awareness campaign/training on ICT and cyber security to civil and public servants across the nation.

The lawmaker who is representing Kogi Central Senatorial District had last year during plenary at the Red Chamber, called on Nigerian youths to positively utilize their internet skills in the advancement of the country.

Senator Yakubu Oseni who in a statement revealed that his office is in partnership with Advanced Cisco Networks and Wireless Communication Center Limited and Meridian Technologies, noted that the programme is open to all willing civil or public servants in the 774 Local Government Areas of the country.

The statement reads in part: “This is to inform the general public most especially the public servants that the Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Crime, Senator Yakubu Oseni in partnership with relevant bodies is organizing free cyber security awareness campaign/training for the entire public servants across the 774 LGAs in Nigeria.

“The training which is scheduled to begin on the 20th of January 2020 across the nation will be handled by Advanced Cisco Networks and Wireless Communication Center Limited in Partnership with Meridian Technologies.

“The Representatives and Resource Persons from ACN&WCC LTD in each LGA in Nigeria will be visiting various MDAs, starting from 13th of January 2020 to finalize arrangement for the eventual take-off of the programme on the afforementioned date,” he added.

While urging Directors of MDAs, Head of State Civil Service Commission, Local Government Chairmen and all concerned authorities to support the initiative, the lawmaker stressed that the training is absolutely free for all eligible candidates.

He further enjoined every Local Government Chairman to provide about 200 willing youths of their respective LGAs for an advanced two months FREE training on Software Development, Database Development, Networking/Cyber Security and Computer/Phone Repairs depending on Candidates’ choice of course.

It would be recalled that the lawmaker who firmly believes in human capital development had last year distributed over 100 hundred pieces of laptop computers to selected schools across the five local government areas of his constituency. The computers according to him, were meant to aid teaching in the schools.
