Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial district, yesterday at the floor of the Senate moved for urgent attention to be given to the completion of Omi Dam in Yagba West local government area of the western senatorial district of kogi state.
Melaye however, identified employment generation, establishment of cottage industries and improvement in the standard of living of the rural communities as some of the benefits derivable from the projects when completed.
The dam he said, has the capacity to generate enough electricity which could be used to power cottage industries and as well enhance irrigation in the area.
He reinstated the importance of early completion of the project pointing out that the unemployment rate in the state and nation was frightening and stressed the need to keep the youths off crime and delinquent behavior.
The motion was passed and resolution has been directed to be sent to the presidency and the honourable Minister of water resources.
