Senator Atai Aidoko; Our Mistakes and Our Regrets

From my little study of what a democratic government should accommodate, I was made to understand that the electorate is vested with the right to vote in an individual who shall represent their interest at any of the hallowed chambers.

These electorates also have the right to complain when the elected individual performs below expectations or forgets the very essence of being elected just as Senator Atai Aidoko has done so far.

Before the election, Kogi East can still remember the promises shared at the rallies, we are not talking about the promises of providing job for the unemployed nor the promises of providing basic amenities, but the large promise to better the life of the people and persons living in Kogi East and equally influencing government policies in ways in which it will favor the state at large.

But upon reaching the hallowed chambers, all these promises have been forgotten. Our representative at the hallowed chamber has become a successful seat warmer, devoid of all the policy making and the very essence of been elected.

Aidoko has not only forgotten the people of Kogi East but has denied them of all forms of support and concern, making well meaning Kogites like my self to wonder and ask if this is the same Aidoko we were hoping to compare with late Dr Steven Makoji Achema.

It is not in my position to say Senator Atai Aidoko is a disappointment to Kogi East, neither is it in my position to say every vote casted for him was indeed a complete waste.

But I will note here that the people who rallied round and stayed in the sun to ensure his victory at the polls are exposed to a pandemic level of poverty; lack of drinkable water, bad road, no electricity and health care is a large part of this pandemic poverty.

Let it also be noted that his cold and fearful approach towards certain policies that concern Kogi state and Kogi east in particular has not only made the people a prey to the Kangaronic government we are experiencing in Kogi state presently, but has gone a longer way to present Kogi state and Kogi east as a senatorial district with out a senator at the Nigerian senate.

The regular lukewarmness shown towards the issues bothering on his own very people, tribe and state has presented him as one amongst the several electoral mistakes we have made as a people and as a district.

Through his continuous “tip toe” on issues that concern the well being of the people he represents, he has clearly indicated to us that him, Senator Atai Aidoko is not bothered by our constant mitigation, subjugation and most of all our daily oppression.

Be that as it may.

We are not asking Senator Atai Aidoko to fight anybody for our sake, we are only asking him to agitate for our well being. We are not asking him to become enemy to any one, we are only asking that he insist more vehemently for what is right.

We are not asking Senator Atai Aidoko to change the Kogi East senatorial district into another Paris, all we are asking is that he fulfil essence, which is giving us the dividends of democracy.

Above all, we are no longer asking Senator Atai Aidoko to become another Dr Steven Makoji Achema, all we are asking,is for him to become the Dino Melaye of Kogi East.

Every well meaning Kogite will agree with me that this is not too much to demand of him.
