Senator representing Kogi East, Atai Aidoko Ali call for the establishment of special policing agency for lawmakers in Nigeria.

He made the call during plenary on Tuesday.

He argued that for legislators to be insulated from frequent attacks and affront from all angles, ‘legislative police’ is sacrosanct.

Aidoko stated this while supporting a motion raised under order 42 and 52 on the attack, on Ondo State House of Assembly raised by Senator Abiodun Olujimi from Ekiti state.

Senator Aidoko maintained that the current onslaught on some state legislators from Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Benue and now Ondo made it imperative to set up a legislative police in Nigeria.

He said this trend is obtainable in developing and developed countries to protect the sanctity of the legislative houses and its members.

The chairman senate committee on SDGs said security of lives and properties is an important factor in the socio-economic development of the country.

He said if the current situation is allowed to continue, it will gradually trickle up to the National Assembly to the detriment and threat to the democratic process in Nigeria.
