SDP: Yagba Federal Constituency Holds Maiden Meeting

The 2019 general election is around the corner and it promises to be full of historic moments in the nation’s history as cogitations and deliberations are well underway for this epic event that is just months away. To set the stage, the revived Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Yagba Federal Constituency held her first meeting in Isanlu, Kogi State on Saturday 2nd June, 2018.

The Yagba Federal Constituency comprises of Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopa-Amuro LGAs. The aim of the meeting was to deliberate and strategize for the upcoming general elections in 2019. In attendance were Local Government Co-ordinators and members of the party across the 3 LGA’s. Some of the prominent members of the party in attendance are Hon. (Dr.) Atte, Dr Ikubolaje Olajide, Hon. Abereoran, Mr Adebayo Salami, Hon. Dada Olusheyi, an aspirant for Kogi State House of Assembly (Yagba-West Constituency), Hon. Tunji Aro, Hon. Aina-Double Tope, Hon. Owojaiye, Hon. Aremu, Hon Biaye.

Other party stalwarts in attendance were Hon. Olorukooba Adebayo (Jnr.), Mr Solomon Seyi, an aspirant for Kogi State House of Assembly (Mopa-Amuro Constituency), Mr Balogun Precious S.B., Mr Dada Femi, Mrs. Oluyomi Sunday, Mrs Ojus, Mrs Kayode Grace and Mrs Akinmosin Monisoye, Mr Bayo Aro, Mr Sonjo Alaaro among others.

Dr Atte while addressing the gathering said the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is ready to liberate Nigerians from the quagmire brought upon them by the previous and current leadership of PDP and APC respectively. In his remark, he did not mince word in criticizing the rationale behind the activities of some unscrupulous politicians who exploit Nigerians while he also highlighted the failure of past of present administrations to effectively tackle the barrage of economic and social issues facing Nigerians.

Another key speaker at the meeting was Dr. Ikubolaje Olajide who stressed the need to enlighten the general public about the party’s manifesto and programs. He enjoined members of the party to reach out to more people to register their membership with the SDP.

Furthermore, Mr Adebayo Salami and Abereoran who are both outspoken Local Government Party Coordinators said the youths who constitute about 65% of the voting population in Nigeria should make use of the advantage to cast their votes for candidates of SDP at various levels and also contest for elective positions under the party. They reiterated that one of SDP’s major manifesto is to open its political space for young Nigerians to further their political aspirations. They assured the youths seeking elective position of the party’s readiness to promote equal opportunity, gender equality and transparent primaries.

At the end of the meeting, party members exchanged pleasantries, engaged in further political discussions and took photographs amidst strong camaraderie in an amiable atmosphere.
