The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed sadness over the passing of the renowned Islamic scholar, preacher, and Supreme Leader of the Tijjaniyyah Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose transition occurred on Wednesday.
In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party noted that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was greatly revered for his remarkable works in advancing Islamic education and the promotion of peaceful co-existence and harmonious inter-faith relations in Nigeria.
“He made significant contributions in fostering love, amity, and unity in the country.
“It is worthy of note, that the late Sheikh, who is widely celebrated for his Islamic scholarship and education, dedicated over seven scores of his adult life to Quranic teaching, commentaries (Tafsir) and preaching Islamic principles. He was reputed as one of the world’s greatest Mufassirins (translators of the Golden Quaran).
“His teachings over the years, which were defined by moral discipline, piety, and strict adherence to Islamic ethos, had a mass appeal, gaining widespread popularity and large followership. He earned great respect and admiration for his impactful community development initiatives, mentoring activities of young Islamic scholars, and for fostering tolerance, understanding, and strengthing religious harmony amongst Nigerians,” the statement read.
The late Sheikh, who served as the deputy chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in Nigeria, was a deeply religious and practising Muslim, who had a record of performing Hajj 55 times and also Umrah (lesser Hajj) 205 times.
The Party noted and celebrated him for his characteristic nobility and commitment to engendering a good Nigerian society. His courage in speaking against oppressive rules, corruption, and societal ills and vices, through his teachings, stood him out not only as an Islamic scholar but as a notable peace advocate, true patriot, and nation-builder
SDP condoled his immediate family, the entire Tijjaniyyah Movement, the people and governments of Bauchi and Gombe States, and the entire Muslim Ummah.
“Assuredly, the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi made indelible marks on the sands of time, and his legacy will continue to inspire many young Islamic scholars and generations of Nigerians to come.
“May Allah grant his great soul Aljannahtul Firdaus and comfort his family.”
