Acting Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alh. Mouktar Atimah has debunked the news making the round that the Kogi chapter of the party has dragged its Kogi Central senatorial candidate, Barr. Natasha Akpoti to court.
He described the rumour as an imagination of political foes.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja on Saturday, Atimah stated that there is no any legal issue instituted by his party against any of her candidates in the last election.
“What you read on social media is just a figment of political foes who have already seen their end in the legal battle instituted by Barr. Natasha Akpoti to reclaim the stolen mandate of the people of Kogi Central and the only way to tell their followers that everything is alright is to come up with such baloney.
“How can Kogi SDP institute any case against Barr. Natasha Akpoti who has given a face lift to our party in the state?,” Atimah queried.
Reacting to whether the party conducted primary in the last senatorial election, Atimah explained that as a party who has been in existence since third republic it is not possible for his party to fall short of the fact that it needs to conduct primary election before a candidate emerges.
According to him, “direct primary also known as option A4 was used. The people of Kogi Central who are card carriers of the party came out en mass to vote in their different wards.
“It is not just possible for people like Barr. Natasha Akpoti with so much force to emerge as the senatorial candidate of SDP in Kogi Central without primary election. She is too big for that.
“I advise the members of the public to ignore the cry and cheap lies of the political foes who are disgruntled by their impeding defeat at the tribunal and looking for all means to deceive the members of the public”, Atimah said.
