Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has appealed to the workers in the State to give the staff verification’s appeal and complaints committee three more weeks to put the report together for proper implementation.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba at the meeting of the organised labour and the government in Lokoja today, said the 3 weeks extension of time was necessary to allow the committee come out with comprehensive report of the exercise devoid of serious mistakes.
According a press release signed by Akor Sylvester, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Achuba said it was better to allow more time for the result of the exercise than to have another repeat of the verification exercise which is met to correct the wrong in the workforce of the state.
The Governor while appreciating the patience and endurance of the workers in the State, said at the end of the screening exercise, the genuine workers in the State will begin to enjoy their salaries monthly without issues.
He commended the zeal and commitment of the leadership of the organised labour in the State in ensuring that the state is at peace, assuring that by 24th of April, the report of the screening would be ready for action.
Speaking, the Acting Head of Service, Mrs H. O. K. Lawal, also appealed to the workers to consider the extension for an acceptable report.
Responding , the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Onu Edoka warned the state government to be consistent and ensure it keeps to the April 24th deadline on the screening report, maintaining that should the government fail at the expiration of the extension, it would get the reaction of labour.
He commended the role of the Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba in ensuring always that labour and the government come to terms whenever they disagreed.
