A suspected armed robbery gang, Sunday evening attacked motorists at Manderegi village, along Abaji-Lokoja highway. A motorist, who escaped the attack, put the time of the incident at 4:12 pm and said the seven-man gang emerged from a nearby bush with sophisticated weapons.

“They shot sporadically into the air to scare motorists, who were also attacked,” he said.

The motorist, who gave his name as Adegoke, said he narrowly escaped and praised God for saving his family of four that evening.

One of the victims, Mrs. Grace Uchenna, said she was travelling to Kaduna in a commercial bus when the robbers took her handbag containing N148,000 and two handsets.

“That money was meant to pay for a lorry’s fare conveying my goods,” she lamented.

The road was later cleared when police escorts in the convoy of a top government official shot into the air to scare the robbers, who fled the scene.

Motorists trapped in the traffic jam caused by the incident, complained of incessant robbery attacks along the Abuja-Lokoja road and appealed to the Federal Government to deploy soldiers to patrol all black spots on the road.

Effort to reach the crime officer at Abaji Divisional Police Headquarters was not successful but a police officer at the station informed that they were not aware of the incident.
