The attention of the Concerned Group for a Better Kogi State has been drawn to recent commentaries suggesting that the return of all first-term members of the Kogi State House of Assembly is a “risky political move.” We find this position not only misleading but also dismissive of the tangible progress recorded by these lawmakers within a short period.
We wish to unequivocally commend His Excellency, Governor Usman Ododo, and the immediate past Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for their foresight, leadership, and commitment to continuity in governance. Their support for the return of performing first-term legislators is a strategic and progressive decision aimed at deepening legislative impact and sustaining development across the state.
Contrary to the claims of critics, many of these first-term members have demonstrated exceptional dedication, people-oriented representation, and a strong grasp of legislative responsibilities. Within their first tenure, they have sponsored impactful bills, facilitated constituency projects, and strengthened the link between government and the grassroots. To abruptly replace such individuals in the name of political experimentation would risk disrupting the momentum already gained.

Governance thrives not just on change, but on consistency where results are evident. The consolidation of ongoing legislative efforts ensures that projects are completed, policies are refined, and institutional knowledge is preserved. This is the path that responsible leadership must take.
We therefore urge well-meaning citizens and stakeholders to look beyond sensational narratives and objectively assess the performance of these lawmakers. Kogi State deserves stability, growth, and continuity—not unnecessary disruptions driven by political conjecture.
Once again, we applaud Governor Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello for prioritizing the collective interest of Kogi people over political distractions. Their decision reflects wisdom, courage, and a genuine desire to build on existing achievements for a more prosperous Kogi State.

Awwal Abubakar
