Recall: Melaye Alleges Plot by Kogi Govt to Manipulate Results of Verification

Senator Dino Melaye has raised alarm over desperate plans by Kogi State government and her agents to upturn the result of Saturday’s verification exercise.
In a press statement signed by Melaye’s media aide, Ayodele Gideon, the embattled Senator called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject the “undemocratic offer currently prepared by Governor Yahaya Bello and his failed recall agents.
“Our attention have been drawn to the fraudulent moves by the proponents of recall of distinguished Senator Dino Melaye anchored by Kogi State government to subvert the will of the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District.
“Information at our disposal have it that there are desperate sinister moves to upturn the popular wish of electorates in Kogi West, who in their wisdom and political independence today rejected the selfish and satanic recall initiated by Kogi state government and some top failed cabals in the Presidency against distinguished Sen Dino Melaye.
“Today’s verification validation exercise have come and gone and the people of Kogi west have willingly exercised their franchise by re-validating the election of Sen Dino Melaye.
“We therefore call on INEC not to succumb to the the desperate moves and undemocratic offer currently prepared by governor Yahaya Bello and his failed recall agents.
“The exercise no doubt, have shown that truly, power belongs to the people which validate that political sovereignty truly lies with the masses under a democratic atmosphere.
“We wish to equally, commend INEC for resisting forgery in some part while the exercise was on, though, there were cases of comprise in some areas but the people’s will still prevail at last.
“In the light of the approaching plans to do any political magic, we warn in a very strong terms that we shall vehemently resist any attempt to manipulate or unconstitutionally disrespect the widely acknowledged outcome of today’s recall verification exercise.
“We also call on the media, civil society organization and Nigerians at large who have been keenly following this event to rise up and defend democracy in this trying times. The recall exercise started, it has come and the wishes of the people of Kogi West have also prevailed.
“We advise the governor and his team to wait for another day, as this exercise has been completed with valid facts, figures and reality,” he said.
Melaye stated that he will reject any form of criminal attempt, political robbery, subversion of peoples mandate and other dubious tendencies that may reverse Kogi West decision on this recall verification validation exercise.
