Sequel to the rainstorm that wrecked havoc in Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday night, President of the Okun Development Association (ODA), Ambassador Rotimi Akeson has commiserated with people of the community on what he called disaster of immeasurable magnitude.

Over a thousand houses in the community had been affected by the storm, with roofs over their homes blown off and some victims being currently sheltered by well wishers.

“I wholeheartedly empathise with our kith and kin affected by the havoc wrought by the rainstorm,” the President said in a statement on Wednesday, describing it as an unfortunate situation.

“This disaster coming at this time when the economic situation in the country has on itself visited havoc on households in the community calls for urgent action by all concerned in order to bring relief to the affected people without delay,” the statement also said.

The ODA President called on the Kogi State Government, the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) and all spirited individuals and groups to rally the people of Iyara community with a view to bringing succour to them without delay,” he said.

He equally appealed to neighbouring communities to swiftly mobilize assistance to aid those grappling with the aftermath of this disaster.

Together, let’s ensure that essential resources and relief efforts reach our people promptly, providing them with the assistance and comfort they desperately need in the wake of this calamity.
