Public Procurement Bureau on Advocacy Visit to Kogi Speaker

Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement paid an advocacy visit to the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly in Lokoja on Wednesday.
The Director General of the Bureau, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Adejo said the advocacy visit was to intimate the Speaker and the entire legislative institution with first hand information on the activities of the bureau.
Adejo explained that Governor Yahaya Bello set up the council in 2016 with the power to give regulations and guide on financial thresholds, transparency, public inclusiveness and due process on general procurement of private and public institutions to avoid being tele-guided.
The Director General said part of their activities is to engage in capacity building for ministries, departments, agencies and other procurement agencies in the state.
The Director of Procurement, Mr. Bernard Okwoli while speaking congratulated the Speaker on the recent autonomy granted the State Houses of Assembly, added that the Bureau of Public Procurement have their rules for procurement and collaboration.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole appreciated the BPP Team for visiting, saying the he is aware of the law that established the Bureau which is to guide transparency and due process.
The Speaker asked the Bureau to meet with the House of Assembly clerk for proper guidance on income and expenses of the House, adding that when autonomy is fully implemented the legislature will be fully independent on its expenses and will collaborate with the BPP for training.
Other BPP team members are: Head of Quantity Surveying, Mr. Lasisi Garuba; Head Statistician, Mr. Olamide Adewumi; Director Admin and Finance, Mr. Orunbe O.S; Legal Adviser, Barr. Tayo Olowolaiyemo and Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Pauline Okotie.
The Clerk of the House, Mr. Matthew Shaibu; and Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr. Ade Ikupeleye were also present at the visit.
