Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has been commended for signing the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) bill into law.
A statement issued by the Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, in Lokoja on Wednesday, said the NEWMAP law further proved Governor Bello’s undiluted desire to mitigate soil erosion, enhance agricultural development, secure resourceful environment and harness the state’s water resources.
Describing Governor Bello as a “Goldfish that have no hiding place”, the Project Coordinator said “by this singular act, the Governor had secured his name in hall of fame.”
“With deep sense of gratitude, we wish to sincerely and profusely congratulate the purpose driven, people oriented, unrivaled pace-setting and detribalized Governor of Kogi state, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, as he accented and signed the Bill establishing Kogi State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency, which was only a project before.
“The remarkable and commendable achievements of Kogi NEWMAP are borne out of the tenacity, unrelenting and unflinching supports of the achievement-driven Governor to ensure that human tragedies arising from natural disasters occasioned by erosion are averted.
“This added achievement is indeed a direct testament and affirmation of your unimpeachable attributes that are a reflection of a gold fish that has no hiding place. This epoch making decision to increase the capacity of Kogi NEWMAP will no doubt open a greater channels of achievement and place Kogi state on a global map for exceptional resourcefulness,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to the State Assembly for the accelerated passage of the Bill.
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, assented to the the bill on Monday.
Governor Bello, while speaking on the NEWMAP law in Abuja, reiterated his administration’s commitment to reducing erosion challenges across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The Governor maintained that NEWMAP is aimed at bringing succour to erosion problems in the country, hence the support demonstrated by his administration so far to the Project.
According to him, the law has now given the Agency the legal backing to carrying out its mandate in the state especially, reduction of annual erosion problem in communities across the state
The Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye, commended the Governor for showing passion to the success of the Project in the state, assuring that the stakeholders will live up to expectation.
