A former Minister of Health, Prof. Eyitayo Lambo, on Thursday, in Ibadan, blamed government health policy and poor governance for the failure of health care delivery in the country.
Lambo said this in a presentation titled, ‘Evolution and challenges of health policy and health systems development in Nigeria’, at a seminar organised by the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy.
He lamented that successive governments had been paying lip service to the revival of the health sector, while also accusing them of failing to make the sector one of their priorities.
The ex-minister added, “Leadership and governance are the most important building blocks in health systems and development instead of the erroneous belief that the success of the sector depends on good financing.
“The five other building blocks in health, according to the World Health Organisation, are service delivery, human resources, medicines, vaccines and technologies, financing and information.
