Former Kogi State governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Prince Abubakar Audu has said that it is imperative to reform the electoral process so as to deepen democracy  in the country.

Audu, who spoke yesterday at his country home in Ogbonicha in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, described the nation’s electoral system as, “fraudulent” adding that concerted efforts must be made to make it better.

He said the flawed electoral system led to the emergence of leaders through the back door, thereby causing the country to experience bad leadership.

“For democracy to be fully rooted in the country, power must be derived from the electorate so that those elected at all levels of government can be accountable to the people. Also, the current trend of selecting leaders must stop for the country to witness accelerated development. Nigeria ought to be a role model for other African countries,” he said.

On the proposed national dialogue, Audu said there is nothing wrong in sitting together to discuss the way forward for the country, adding that it would not be in the interest of anyone for the country to disintegrate.
