A chieftain of the Labour Party in Kogi state, Bayo Averehi, has berated the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for using Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to subvert the will of Nigerians in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.

While addressing journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, Averehi rejected the outcome of the presidential election which produced Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu as President-elect.

Describing the election results as declared by INEC as great injustice and a rape to Nigeria democracy, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Kogi State said the 2023 election recorded the highest number of voter’s turnout in the history of Nigeria.

He, however, wondered that despite this improvement in the nation’s history, the outcome of the 2023 has been widely condemned by both local and international observers, thereby, making Nigeria a laughing stock among comity of nations.

“This is because the youth and others came out emmass, having developed confidence in the electoral process due to the provisions of the electoral act giving assurance that their votes will count.

“On the contrary the results of the election recorded the lowest turnout of voters since the advent of the fourth republic. What a contradiction. This is a clear indication of absence of intelligence to govern a nation and also to manipulate elections.

“They hurriedly declared results without considering the reported election anomalies and the provisions of the constitution which states inter alia that “and the FCT” conspicuously reveals the height of desperation of this power drunken and clueless party. In the end, we shall prevail, the truth will overcome,” he said.

While noting that many Nigerians have lost confidence on the credibility of INEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election, the LP chieftain appealed to their supporters to remain calm, assuring that the party mandate will be retrieved through legal means.
